"Your cholesterol is dangerously high Mr Kaan, and your bmi is quite high."'Screw you, what do you know, dumb nurse'. I thought. At this stage in my life I was sucked into all the the low carb community conspiracy. You know, how the government, NHS, doctors are all trying to make us sick and kill us.

10 Years of Training and Still Fat

I  felt like a failure, how I could have been training for that long and still be so overweight and unhealthy. To top it off, it felt I was always on a diet, always worrying about what I was eating. It's hard to stop worrying when you fear carbs, that's all you can think about. You see carbs in your dreams.Even though I was pretty strong and lifted heavy in the gym I felt tired and beat up all the time. My dad had his first heart attack at 40, some of my friends had diabetes and a whole host of other medical complications, I didn't want to end up like that. I knew something had to change. I had to focus on health over hench, I had to be smart.

Seeing dad having a heart attack at 40, along with friends having diabetes and other medical issues, I had to make a change. I had to focus on health over physical strength, and be wise about my goals.

So in 2012 a serious endeavour to learn things properly began. I had to ignore the diet and fitness industry with their quick fixes, new six pack workouts, pills, potions and diets that changed as frequently as the british weather. And so I did, I took courses, hired professionals with academic knowledge and real world experience. Reflected on my past 12 years of training and dieting and started to piece things together. I’ve continued to invest in my education since.

I started to see results, I was losing weight in the form of fat every week. I was looking better and more importantly feeling better. I was no longer suffocating on diets or feeling deprived. I ate carbs, I ate chocolates, bread, biriyani. You name it, I ate it and I was still losing weight.

I discovered the solution is not just another quick fix diet. It was understanding that we are living in an obesogenic environment, and developing the correct mindset, lifestyle and behaviour change strategies.
